Leeds United had hoped to hijack the deal by making a higher offer than Olympique Marseille's initial bid of around €29 million. However, Marseille improved their bid and convinced Feyenoord to agree to a deal with them instead.
Paixao, 25, will sign a five-year contract in France. He joined Feyenoord three years ago, coming from Coritiba in his native Brazil. In 129 games for Feyenoord, Paixao scored 39 goals and provided 23 assists.
